Music Monday#1: Mother of Mine

This is my first exploratory maiden submission to Music Monday which I learned from Rosidah's blog Music of My Life. I am not very good with all song artists nor very good with lyrics either. I just listen to music because I love music.

My Musical Side

I love good music: soft, gentle, romantic, relaxing, meditative and with sweet and tender notes. Music serves as an aperitif for my lonesome soul.

Other music that I also love are classical, popular, folk or traditional, instrumental, symphonic, aria, operetta and opera.

In my family, our mother was the musician. Though she never played any musical instruments, she taught us music through her ability of interpreting musical notes. Then she would assemble us for harmonious blending. I was mainly assigned to sing Soprano. Once in a while, I can handle Tenor.

At school and in the church, I participated in Choir Singing. Sadly, in the church where I belong now, choir singing is only done every festival. So am not much into good use anymore.

I have an old Organ at home, handed down to me by one generous couple as a gift for helping them during the renovation of their 125 years old Victorian house.

Why they gave it to me? They wanted to get rid of their son's organ as they still have their family piano that nobody use since their children got married. One time, they came to visit us at home in Orange. I invited them to my little computer room and demonstrated to them that I could play the piano, a program already installed in the computer hardware.

It was my long time dream to own an Organ. I can read notes though but I have difficulty playing both Clef and Staff together. I have trouble with visual coordination in reading both notes at the same time.

So I have to play them individually. I don't have that patience to practice. I spend more of my time blogging than practicing. One time, our church Minister asked me to play the piano for the service. I was red face all over. I was honored being asked, but also embarrassed that I couldn't.

The only music I can play with my ten fingers is an old familiar Hymnal Music, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus".

During my freshman year in Mindanao State University, someone taught me how to play the 'organ'. Because they lived far away and that place was not guaranteed safe for me to commute on foot, my mother was less encouraging, even if it was offered on free tuition. Since then, I drifted away.

For what I lack, I make it up by listening to music. My life as a single mother was pretty hectic and I couldn't really be bothered remembering lyrics of the song either. It's enough for me to just listen to the sound of music.

My other blog, where I first posted my maiden entry to Music Monday, Songs from Memory, was only intended to keep my favourite songs in the past. Thanks to You Tube for easy supply. I can work on the computer, at the same time, listen to my favourite music.

This blog, Tableau Vivant, was originally intended to post Personality Profile like what I did to Wenarto, whom I knew through his postings in You Tube. Now I can make use of this blog for musical meme. After all, Tableau Vivant is for entertainment, kind of having my own cyber home theatre.

It seems that Memes are sprawling fast and quick in blog world and everyone seems to get caught up with, but it's a nice form of social networking too. Only they can be time consuming and addictive as well.

That's all about me I suppose. It's music time!
